Indications for Use

The UnnaSleeve ™ device should be used on patients with:

• Venous stasis ulcers
• Sequlae resulting from venous insufficiency
• Stasis dermatitis
• Leg edema
• Varicose veins
• Postphlebitic syndrome
• Lymphedema of leg

Theory of Operation

The UnnaSleeve™ device is made of non-stretch material (cotton) that is applied to the affected leg. While applying the UnnaSleeve™ device, elevate the leg above the heart level to drain the leg veins and thus eliminate their distention.

The UnnaSleeve™ device does not apply compression to the patient in a recumbent position since it is applied snugly, but not tightly. When the patient stands or sits upright, the UnnaSleeve™ device does not stretch and therefore greatly reduces the amount of venous distention. The amount of pressure applied will depend on the height of the venous column from the heart to the calf. The longer the venous column, the greater the applied pressure. The UnnaSleeve™ device applies a pressure equal and opposite to the internal hydrostatic pressure.
